Uploading & Downloading With FTP




When you have a hosting package, one thing you may want to do is upload and download files to your package. Typically, if you have built a website using a web design software such as Dreamweaver, you need to upload your website to your hosting package for the world to see it. The most effective way to do so is by connecting via FTP (file transfer protocol).

This article will show you how to connect to your server using a third party FTP program called FileZilla. If you do not already have this software, you can obtain it by visiting our Downloads section.

Uploading To Your Hosting Package:

1. When connecting via ftp, you will need a few pieces of information. The first is the server address or "host". The host is simply your domain name, such as "protechhosting.net".

2. The second thing you need is the username and password, which would by default would be your CPanel username and password. You can create additional FTP logins by selecting the "FTP Accounts" in your CPanel.

3. After filling in the above information, you are now ready to connect to your server. You can do this by clicking the "Quick Connect" button.

4. Once you are connected you will notice your server files on the right pane of FileZilla. By default, you want to upload your website files into the "www" folder. You can do this by navigating to your website files on the left pane of FileZilla and double-clicking them. This will transfer the files to your server.

Downloading From Your Hosting Package:

4. Once you are connected, you will notice your server files on the right pane of FileZilla. By default you website files are in the "www" folder. To download files, simply navigate to the file you would like to download on the right pane, and navigate to the destination you would like to save them to on the left pane. Simply double-click the files and they will download.
